Hadley 9 Months

Hadley Ann at 9 Months Old
Length: 28 inches (75%)
Weight: 21 lb. 4 oz. (90%)

Miss Hadley (AKA "Smiley"), you are on the move--army crawling that is.  You will get up on your hands and knees but then when you decide you want to get somewhere you lay back down and roll or army crawl to your desired location--which is usually under furniture or any other inconvenient location.

You babble a lot and say "mama", "dada" and "byebye".  Four teeth allow you to bite...Hard.  Wearing 12 month old clothes and size 3 diapers.  So far you are a great eater. There is not much we can put in front of you that you won't eat.

Momma may have passed on her out of control hair to you.  It is becoming very blonde and and is still very short on the back and sides of your head.  The hair on top of your head is getting long.  Fixing you hair a challenge for momma (and impossible for daddy).  You usually have it in one long ponytail right on top of your head... but if I have time I'll try to put pigtails in.  You hate it when I do that.  You are the only girl in your daycare class right now and those boys love to pull your hair.  Lucky for you, Caden keeps a pretty close eye on you when he stops by to visit your class.

You are going through a bit of a shy stage and when someone else talks to you, you will give a sweet smile and lay your head down on the shoulder of whoever is holding you.  However, you will let anyone hold you (except Santa--you are not fond of him AT ALL).

The tantrum stage has hit, but really only when you are hungry or sleepy and someone walks away from you.  Otherwise you are still our happy, laid back girl.

(I don't like it when blog posts don't have at least one picture.  I can't seem to get any pictures to upload on here anymore.  Boo!  If anyone has any ideas as to why please let me know!)

Hadley 6 Months

Hadley at 6 Months Old
Length: 27 1/4 inches (95%)
Weight: 19 lb 10 oz (>95%)
Head Circumference: 17 3/4 inches (<95 p="p">

What have you been up to, Hadley?  Growing too fast like always. Wearing 9-12 month clothes.  You wake up with a smile on your face and stay that way almost all day unless you are hungry or sleepy.  You babble some but usually do more smiling and laughing. You drank breast milk exclusively until you were 5 months old, then it was a combination of formula, breast milk and baby food.  You usually sleep from 9:00pm to 6-7:00am in a pack-n-play in our room--only because you and Caden share a room and we don't want you waking each other up since your schedules are different.
You are still a momma's girl... when you see me walk in the house when I get home from work you start kicking those legs and jumping like crazy!  Then if I walk by without picking you up you let me know how you feel about it.
Caden is still very protective of you.  He likes to help take care of you, especially when you cry.  He also wants you to have as much fun as he is when riding his toys so he will ask us to put you on there so he can push you around the house.  You're always watching Caden and so badly want to be able to play with him.  You just can't quite get around well enough yet.  There is something special about watching you two together that just melts my heart more!

You are rolling all over the house but no crawling yet.  You starting sitting independently at 5 months old but really prefer standing if someone is willing to help hold you up.

You are the sweetest baby, Hadley Ann!  I hope you keep that contagious smile forever!

Hadley 4 Months

Hadley Ann at 4 months old:
Weight--17 lb 2 oz (95%)
Length-- 25 1/4 inches (90%)
Head Circumference-- 17 inches (95%)

Hadley, you are a big, healthy and happy girl!  You have the SWEETEST smile and you are not afraid to show it.

You are still sleeping through the night most of the time but we still have you sleeping in our room in a pack-n-play because we are just not quite ready to move Caden to a big bed.  The biggest challenge is actually getting you to sleep.  We are not always great about sticking to a schedule and if you get too sleepy it can by very hard to get you to relax enough to sleep.  I sometimes get desperate and just breastfeed you, even though you are not actually hungry, but because it is so comforting to you.
Right now, it is usually momma that can soothe you when you are upset, but you sure like to laugh at daddy.  Caden is a big source of your entertainment and you love watching him play.  He can't wait for "Sissy" to start playing with him.
Dr. Yap told me at your appointment that you are very much ready for stage 1 veggies and fruits.  He said he was impressed that you are almost sitting up on your own and that you love to stand.  As he went to put his hand on your belly to finish your check-up, you let out the biggest belly laugh I have ever heard come out of someone so small.  Dr. Yap got so tickled that he couldn't even finish what he was doing.
You still look so much like Caden.  Your hair is darker than his, but it's starting to come in blonde. You have also almost completely rubbed it off of the sides and back.  I'm so excited to watch you two grow up together... just don't do it so fast!

When Daddy Dresses Me

This was back when Hadley was 5 weeks old and not yet going to daycare.  I came home from work to find her hanging out with daddy like this...
Let's be honest... I'm actually surprised he even decided to take her our of her pajamas and get her dressed.  When I was home with her I didn't even always bother to do that for her or myself.

"Momma! SISSY!"

My sweet Caden!  He loves Hadley and wants to help take care of her.  I realize that will probably stop once she starts playing with his toys.
It can get pretty chaotic around the house sometimes with two kids under the age of two but I'm so glad they are only 19 months apart.  I think it will be fun to watch them play together, learn together and challenge each other!  Caden so badly wants Hadley to play with him already.  He likes to go lie next to her when she is on this mat.  Can you say adorable?
He also gets very concerned when she cries.  He usually runs to me, taps my arm and says, "momma! SISSY!".  He then runs back to her to comfort her with a pacifier if there is one nearby or he just rubs her leg.  He's also done this with the ladies at daycare.
One day, when I was dropping them off at daycare I left Hadley in her carseat just around the corner in the hallway while I tried to get Caden situated in his room.  He refused to go until I brought Hadley in to her room (the baby and 1 year old rooms are connected so he sometimes goes back and forth to visit.)

Anyone need a babysitter?

So maybe Cody and I were more interested in Caden's egg hunting than he was...he would rather wave at the car driving by.

They were both fairly grumpy at this point but I was determined to start our Easter picture tradition.

Only picture of momma this weekend.  Cody caught me struggling to pick up an egg...I blame the mastitis that set in that day.

Hadley's Baptism

Hadley was baptized on March 25, 2012--only 16 days old!  She was such a good girl through it all and never made a sound, even when Pastor Snyder carried her around so the congregation could see her.  In fact, between our friends and family we took up the entire first two pews and had 6 kiddos from 0-2 years old and they were all so well behaved through it all.  I was impressed!

Hadley Ann, you are dearly loved and we are excited to watch you grow up to be the young lady God wants you to be!

Caden is just too busy to stop and take a picture these days

Hadley Ann Coltharp

After our false alarm on Feb. 20th, I walked around dilated to a 4, then a 5 and 90% effaced for more than 3 weeks.  My doctor decided to schedule me for an elective induction as soon as I was 39 weeks pregnant.  However, the hospital was full so we had to wait a few more days beyond that.  My doctor had said because the baby has been sitting so low for so long, the fact that I was so far progressed and I wasn't slowing down at work any, she kind of expected me to go into labor before the induction.
My good luck "mooches" from Caden.

Soon to be big brother, playing with daddy
I ended up walking into the hospital at 9:00 am on March 9, 2012 to be induced.  They started my IV and checked my cervix to get a starting point, already at a 6.  Pitosin was started around 10:00 but my doctor couldn't get there to break my water until after lunch, she had hoped that once the contractions got stronger my water would break on its own.  It never did.
Just getting things started.
Even as the contractions were getting stronger, I wasn't in a lot of pain so we were waiting to get the epidural. It wasn't long though before the nurse came in and told me that 4 more women that were "very much in labor" just showed up. She was afraid if we didn't do it now I wouldn't have time to get one--and this was very important for me. The anesthesiologist then came in and gave me the lowest dose with the epidural since I wasn't in too much pain.

At one point in the morning, my daycare called my dad (they knew I was being induced) and told him that Caden had a 102 fever.  Luckily Cody's mom and dad went to pick him up and took him to the doctor who said it was a virus and to keep him away from Hadley until he was fever free for at least 24 hours.  I was so bummed he wouldn't get to meet "sissy" on her birth day.

At 1:00 my doctor came in to check me out. I was now dilated to a "very squishy" 7 and she could not believe that after all my body had been doing the last few weeks and now with regular contractions my water still had not broken. She said that this just goes to show that no one really knows what it is that triggers labor.

After my water broke my labor really sped up and contractions were very strong-- I know this because my epidural only worked on my left side. On my right side I could feel a very strong backache, and what felt like menstrual cramps, but the worst pain was a stabbing pain in my right hip area. We tried turning me on to my side to see if it would even the medication out but it didn't change anything.

Within about an hour I was dilated to a 10 but they didn't want me to start pushing until the anesthesiologist corrected my epidural It wasn't long before they had it corrected and I could only feel just enough pain to push adequately.

As usual there was a lot of people in my delivery room which is why I only wanted Cody there.  I want as few of people as possible to see me in a vulnerable condition like this.  We had my doctor, my delivery nurse and a scrub tech--I loved them all!  They were pretty entertaining for the hour that I was pushing.  Once again, someone commented on how they've never really seen anyone laugh and smile through labor so much--that's my coping strategy (not always the best thing).  Of course the epidural helped with that too.  There was also a nursing student witnessing her first birth, I couldn't help but laugh as she was slowly getting closer and closer to the door.  Labor and delivery was not her thing.  Then there were also a few pediatric nurses coming in and out during the delivery process.  Good thing the room was big!

I pushed for about an hour.  The doctor/nurse kept commenting on how much hair she had and how long it was.  I chose NOT to look with a mirror...  I was in quite a bit more pain during this delivery than I was with Caden.  First my epidural wasn't as strong-- I still had muscle control in my legs.  Second, this doctor (my last one was in Lubbock) wasn't in as much of a rush.  She chose not to do an episiotomy and not to use the vacuum unless I just got too wore out.  This was good though because it gave my body more time to stretch which resulted in less severe tearing this time (only a 2nd degree).
At 3:31 pm Miss Hadley Ann entered the world.  All everyone could talk about was how big she was and how much hair she had.  This time around they were much slower paced in the delivery room after she was born.  They held her up for a little while for me to look her over.  Then almost immediately laid her on my stomach for what seemed like 5 minutes before even taking her away to weigh her, etc.  This made the stitching up process much less noticeable.
They then let Cody cut the cord.  I felt bad for him because he didn't get to hold her immediately like he did with Caden--but I was grateful for the extra time I got to spend with her that I didn't with Caden.
Daddy cutting the cord
Notice the curly cue that the doctor gave her while waiting on her to be delivered.
My big baby girl weighed 9 lbs, was 20.5 inches long and had a 14 inch head and 14 inch chest.  Her APGAR score was 9.9!
Cody finally got to hold his baby girl after I breastfed her and our visitors came in the room to meet this precious girl.

Hadley looks so much like Caden did when he was first born!

You know that old wives tale that if you have heartburn while pregnant the baby will have hair.  I'm a believer-- I NEVER have heartburn unless I'm pregnant and with her I was taking Tums daily.

Does this picture show grandmother's love or what?

Craig and Briana came to meet Hadley
As expected, we didn't sleep well on Hadley's first night even though I was exhausted.  This girl wanted to eat.   ALL.THE.TIME.  She also wanted to be held constantly to which, of course, we obliged.

On Saturday we were lazy around the hospital room until we could be discharged once she was 24 hours old.

Thanks Andrea for my cute outfit!

My mom and dad (Gigi and Pop) brought us lunch to the hospital and brought Caden for a quick picture with Hadley.  It's too bad none of them turned out cute.
